Self-Catering Cottage in Blackwaterfoot, Arran- golf, tennis, riding, beautiful beach

Getting Here

There are two ferry routes to Arran both run by Caledonian MacBrayne (Calmac).  The main ferry is from Ardrossan to Brodick.  It runs regularly throughout the year seven days a week.  It is a fairly large car ferry but in the height of the summer it is often fully booked so, if you are bringing a car, booking in advance is highly recommended. Their website for this ferry is

From the ferry terminal it's a twenty minute drive to Ferry Cottage. On leaving the terminal turn right along the Brodick shore road (there's a co-op supermarket just here, although Blackwaterfoot has local shops for all the basics) and travel along this road past the Auchrannie spa and the Arran Hertitage Museum.  Then take the left fork for Blackwaterfoot onto the String Road.  This takes you up over the centre of Arran and over to the west coast.  Follow this road for about 10 miles, through the village of Shiskine and then turn right at the T juncion.  This takes you down into Blackwaterfoot village.  Ferry Cottage is on the right immediately before the harbour bridge.

The other ferry runs from Cloanig on the Kintyre peninsula to Lochranza.  It is a smaller car ferry and booking is not possible.

From Lochranza, turn right along the shore road and keep going until you reach Blackwaterfoot. The cottage will be on your left immediately after the harbour bridge.  This journey (about 35 minutes) will take you through several small villages down the west coast road.

There is also a regular bus service from Brodick terminal and a bus stop just outside the cottage.  You should take the number 322 bus (Blackwaterfoot via String Road).  The stop is the same as for the Kinloch Hotel.
